Choose & Use The Best Colors
The Psychology of Color Are you using the best colors for your web site? Many web designers often overlook the issues of color in web design. When choosing colors for your web site there are three main areas that should be addressed. 1) The psychological effect of colors, 2) The effect on the readability of your site, and 3) The complementary choice of colors for your background, graphics, links, and text These are all areas that must be well satisfied to create an effective and professional web site. Listed below are a few characteristics of color that should always be considered when designing your graphics. * Colors have an effect on our emotions within 90 seconds of viewing. * Color choices can motivate, impress, and persuade your prospect to buy from you. * Colors not only intensify the item, they greatly influence our behavior. * The effects of color differ among different cultures. * Color choices alone are sending a specific message to your viewers. Given the fact that people respond more to non-verbal cues than verbal cues, it's all-important that you choose the corresponding colors for the emotional trigger you want to trip. The following colors are associated with certain emotions or qualities in North American culture. White - Suggests truthfulness, purity, clean, devotion, mild, and contemporary. White is the best color for a background color on the web. For business it can be refreshing and sterile. Black ? Suggests elegance, boldness, power, authority, seductive, evil, sophistication and classic. Black is the ideal choice for text on a light background. It is hard on the eyes when used as a background on web sites. Red ? Suggests strength, sex, excitement, passion, speed, danger, aggressiveness, and demands attention. In business it is associated with debt. Red is the most emotionally intense color. It stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing. Blue ? Suggests security, trust, reliability, coolness, faithfulness, belonging, and dignity. Blue is the most popular color. It is the second most popular color. In business it suggests fiscal responsibility and sanctuary. Green - Suggests abundance, health, fertility, freedom, healing, nature, growth, jealously, and cool. In business it suggests status and wealth. It is the easiest color on the eye. Brown ? Suggests effectiveness, politeness, richness, and helpfulness. Brown is the color of earth, and is abundant in nature. Gray ? Suggests earnestness, authority, and practicality. In business it suggests traditional and conservative. Pink ? Suggests softness, sweet, femininity, well-being, innocence, and nurture. Purple ? Suggests dignity, spirituality, royal, luxury, wealth, authority, mournfulness, and sophistication. In business it is upscale. Purple is favored by the artistic. Orange ? Suggests playfulness, pleasure, cool, warmth, cheer, vibrant, strength, endurance, and ambition. Yellow ? Suggests sunshine, warmth, cheer, happiness, cowardice, and jealousy. In business it is appealing to intellectual types and is good for accents. Yellow enhances concentration, increases metabolism, and is the most difficult color for the eye to take in. Gold ? Suggests expensive, and prestige. Silver ? Suggests cold, scientific, and prestige. Whenever you begin to choose your colors, think about your target market. What emotions do you want to evoke? Give some thought to the current emotion of your prospect and to the message you want to send. Then choose your colors. Technology Vs. Usability When JV Media Design was formed, the year was 1995 and the Internet was a very different place than it is today. The first websites we created used simple layouts, a modest amount of graphics, standard "web safe" colors, and no javascript. This was all done in an attempt to create websites that worked well with the browsers of the time (namely, Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator). As the years went by, technology rapidly changed, and...
Teach Yourself Css The Easy Way I taught myself HTML back in the mid-nineties and was proud of the fact that I was able to accomplish the design of fairly complex web pages with nothing more than a starter HTML book, an HTML reference book, and the knowledge I had stored in my head. But back in those days, we web designers had what looking back was a fairly limited amount of tools with which to work, and the quality (or lack thereof) of sites on the web was lackluster at best.Fast-forward to today: The hand-coder has more powerful and intuitive software packages available that will still allow us "to get our hands d...

Designing Your Web Site For All Browsers Let's face it. Building a web site that browses consistently on multiple platforms and multiple browsers is not always as easy as we would like.It is safe to say that most designers spend most of their time building their sites on a given platform. Those with the highest standards should, upon completion, take a look at their creation in different browsers and different platforms.Sure, you could see how it looks in Window 98 with Internet Explorer and let that be good enough, but do you really want to risk a bad web experience for millions and millions of potential visitors? Consider this....A recent statistic I saw reported that 12% of internet users were Macintosh users. Ignoring this fact is like creating a catalog that can only be optimally viewed by one in eight of your customers.Furthermore, not all of the W... | |
| When Good Computers Go Bad Remember the day that you got your new computer (or the hand-me down from Uncle Larry) and you pulled that shiny case out of the box? Once you finally had all of the cables properly mangled into anunmanageable ball, you powered on, the screen lit up and off you went. The PC was fast, programs loaded in the blink of an eye, and Internet surfing was a breeze. Those were the ... | |
| Are Web Templates Worth It? First off, I am a designer. Now you're thinking, here's this guy trying to convince me to hire a designer costing a few hundred to a few thousand dollars instead of buying a pre-made web template for about $60. Well, these days most companies don't have the money to invest in a costly web site and there are thousands of hungry web designers out there, plus now there are web template resources. These resources can equal great value and effectiveness for the customer as well as increased business for the web designer. For the customer it is important to be prepared. They need to know what their website should look like, how it will perform, the ability to update and add to it easily, so as not to be held hostage by a design firm's technical c... | |

| How To Make Your Site Attractive To Potential Link Partners Every now and then, I receive a link exchange request from someone who wants a link from my directory (my high-ranking directory directly accessible from the index page), and in exchange, they're willing to link to my page from one of their zillions of link pages about 18 jumps away from the home page. Needless to say, the proffered page has a Google PageRank of 0, and chances are it's not even indexed by any search engines. What an enticing offer. If you want people to trade links with you, thus increasing your PageRank and traffic, you must offer them a valuable link in return. Not all links are created equally. Here are some tips for making your site attractive to potential link partners:... | |

| Why Dot-coms Fail - A Webmasters Perspective Everyday we hear that another company goes out of business. When and why does a dot-com become a dot-bomb?After checking few dozen defunct companies, I think the main reasons for dot-coms failure are:- Poor business plan. In the last years, a lot of investment capital was spent on poorly planned companies that clearly couldn't reach profitability.
- Poor company promotion. This applies both offline and online. Two newspaper ads and word of mouth are not enough.
- Poor financial management. Fancy offices, free food, does it ring a bell?
- Poor Human Resources management. With lots of...
